I wear many hats in a day—mom, wife, daughter, businesswomen, friend, teammate—and I love each and every one of them. I want to share my love of life and positive energy with the world. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a true prairie girl who lives the motto of our province, "Friendly Manitoba".
I don't claim to be an expert at anything in particular but my strength lies in bringing people together for events, fun and learning and creating a community of happy, healthy, fun people who want to make a positive difference in our world.
I started my career in the marketing field and realized very quickly that I was an entrepreneur at heart and started my own retail business in 1993. After 13 years in the retail world I sold my business and changed careers to become a professional fundraiser with Bison Sport at the University of Manitoba. However, I realized very quickly my heart was still telling me that being an entrepreneur was where I should be.
Combining all my skills over the last 25 years has allowed me to create something unique—the Happy Monkey Club. HMC has become an opportunity to live everyday being happy, healthy, having fun, and making a difference in my community! My goal is to share that and support and empower other women so they can live their best life. I invite you to join our HMC community.
For the second year in a row, HMC hosted The Power of Positive, a day to get energized, inspired and motivated to live a positive, happy, healthy life. It really is a kick-start to what HMC delivers on a weekly basis but in an action packed, entertaining, fun day. One of my main goals of the day is for the participants to take away the message and share it with family, friends and their community. I do not want the day to be a one hit wonder.
You’ve heard the saying, “think outside the box.” It’s a metaphor that means to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective, and has been used in business environments to try to find a competitive edge. This week, I would like to challenge you to not only think outside the box but to go outside your box.
This sponsorship is a great fit: Positive Women and FMG’s Manitoba Dragon Boat Festival working together to help Cancer Care Children’s Hospital Foundation support children in their brave battle against cancer.
I have started and stopped and started again many times over the last year. My gratitude writing habit has not been established, however, I continue to read about the importance and value of it. My short-term attempts have had positive results but the habit has not been created. I have witnessed those that do keep a gratitude journal on a regular basis and how they have clearly benefitted from creating the habit. So I am throwing out the challenge to all of you to start today.
Power of Positive was an empowering 2 day event Oct. 24-25, 2013 that engaged, educated and empowered 220 teenage girls to live a positive, healthy, happy life and give back. The smiles, laughs and engagement that went on were contagious and everyone left with a smile on their face to share with the world.
